明天？隔天？英文時間副詞小心用

在中文裡面的「他明天要去書店」和「他說他隔天要去書店」，「明天」和「隔天」是完全不同的兩個意思，中文字也不同。在英文中也是這樣！現在就來看看到底有多不一樣。

明天 (如果今天是12/1，明天就只會是12/2) = tomorrow

隔天 (任何一天的下一天) = the next day

同學看出兩者的差別了嗎? 如果你所指的動作或事件，是發生在「明天」，時間副詞用tomorrow。如果是發生在某件事情的「隔天」，則用the next day。看下面兩個例句更清楚：

(1) David is going to the bokstore tomorrow.
→ 明天要去

(2) I saw David on Sunday. He was going to the bookstore the next day, so I asked him to get a book for me.
→ 星期天的隔天要去

第(2)個句子，我們可以想像David在星期天遇到你的時候，他是這樣告訴你的：I am going to the bookstore tomorrow.

但是當你在以後轉述給別人聽的時候，你會改用 the next day，意思是「遇到David那天的隔天」，而不是「明天」。

下面這張表，能幫助同學釐清從「現在」作為時間出發點的時間副詞，和從「當時」作為時間出發點的時間副詞。

現在就來選選看，要選哪個時間副詞才對：

A : Lisa went to the hospital ( last week / a week before ).
B : I know. I ran into her two days ago. She was going to the hospital again ( tomorrow / the next day ).
A : She is quite busy ( these days / those days ). I hope her grandpa is okay.

答案：

A : Lisa went to the hospital last week.
→對說話者A而言的「上周」
B : I know. I ran into her two days ago. She was going to the hospital again the next day.
→對兩天前的Lisa而言的「隔天」
A : She is quite busy these days. I hope her grandpa is okay.
→ 一天前Lisa才又去了醫院，可見「最近」很忙
