究竟有幾個？ – 摸清引介句there be的底細

英文的引介句型為：There be + 名詞；引介句主要是要表達「某處某地有著什麼人/物品」

基本架構為：

例如：
(1) There is a teacher. (有一位老師。)
→ 一位老師為單數，因此搭配be動詞is。
(2) There are twenty books. (有20本書。)
→ 20本書為複數，因此搭配be動詞are。

但若是遇到英文的不可數名詞該怎麼辦呢？英文的不可數名詞可以當作單數名詞，因此也會搭配be動詞is，像是水(water)、空氣(air)還有時間(time)在英文都是屬於不可數名詞。
例如：
(1) There is some water. (有一些水。)
(2) There is no time. (沒有時間了。)

在日常生活中，我們使用引介句的情境通常會帶出對應的地點，像是「在教室裡面有3位學生」，句子後需搭配介系詞再加地點 。

例如：
(1) There is a computer on the desk. (書桌上有一台電腦。)
(2) There is fresh air at the park. (公園有新鮮的空氣。)
(3) There are five pens in my pencil case. (我的鉛筆盒裡有五支鉛筆。)

最後，我們再來說說若是遇到主語有兩個或是兩個以上的名詞時又該怎麼辦呢?可以直接當成複數名詞使用be動詞are嗎？在英文的文法中，有一項「就近原則」的變化，就讓我們直接來看看以下的例子來說明。
(1) There is a teacher and 20 students in the classroom.
(2) There are 20 students and a teacher in the classroom.

這兩句的主語由兩個可數名詞組成(a student and 20 students)，但是be動詞變化則以最靠近there be句型的第一個名詞決定。第一句因為a teacher(單數名詞)比較靠近there be句型，因此使用is；第二句因為20 students(複數名詞)比較靠近there be句型，故使用be動詞are。

填入正確的be動詞(is/are)：

(1) There _________ five people in my family.
(2) There _________ an apple on the table.
(3) There _________ an apple and five bananas in the basket.

答案&解析：

(1) There ___are___ five people in my family.
→ 主語five people為複數主語，故搭配be動詞are。

(2) There ___is___ an apple on the table.
→ 主語an apple為單數主語，所以使用be動詞is。

(23 There ___is___ an apple and five bananas in the basket.
→  主語為an apple and five bananas，依照「就近原則」，主語an apple比較靠近there be句型，因此使用be動詞is。
